For this chapter I am using three blogs that are run by
members of my class to demonstrate what exactly a place blog looks like and how
it fits into both the local community and in the blogging community. The first
blog is Make It Up Mama http://makeitupmama.wordpress.com/,
that was written by our instructor,
Laura. She is the mom, wife, student, and professor and her blog focuses on her
busy life and how she manages it all. Many of her posts talk about local things
such as restaurants, parks, and shops and how moms can enjoy these places with
their families.
The second blog is Life and Lemons http://lifeandlem0ns.blogspot.com/,
run by Lauren in which she pushed herself to try new thing and shared her experiences
with her readers. This blog demonstrates what a hyperlocal narrative looks like
because it is not so much geared to news or reviews, but rather her experiences
in her local environment and how they impacted her.
The final blog is Adventures in Eating by Amy http://amyeades.wp.txstate.edu/, inspired
and captivated by our local food scene, she goes to different eateries and
writes about them and her experiences there. Her blog mainly focuses on the geographically
near aspects of community as well as the foodie community.
All of these blogs not only find themselves connecting to
their local audience to find community, but they each fall into one or more
online, blogging communities as well. This inter connection, both on and off
the web, create meaning and identity for them and their stories. They allow for
people to come together and share what they know and how they feel. They have
all contributed to their communities and they have made them more complex and
wider than they were before.
